About Me
Hi, I Am Laura Brown, MS, RD, CSO
I’ve been a dietitian for over 20 years and I’m a Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition. This site was created as a place to share my knowledge and passion with others facing a diagnosis of cancer. Nutrition can be confusing but it doesn’t need to be. I focus on providing evidence based information to help you decipher the most recent research while giving practical advice to help you live your best life.
More About Me
Confession time… I’m a dietitian because I love food. Chopping vegetables is therapeutic for me. I want to have a cookbook library (with a moving ladder!) when I grow up. I’m not a vegetarian because I love bacon. I’ll take apple cider over pumpkin spice any day. I love doing dishes but hate doing laundry. Last year I accomplished my dream of eating a fresh baguette while strolling the streets of Paris. I could eat breakfast foods all day long. The smell of ketchup and maple syrup make me instantly nauseated. My most treasured possessions are hand written recipes from people I love.
I met my husband at Michigan State University (Go Green!) where I received my Bachelor of Science in Dietetics. I grew up next to the world’s largest Christmas store but we now call Colorado home. I’m a mom to 2 girls who keep life interesting in the best way possible.
My Grandmother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer at 34. She is the one who taught me how to make homemade pierogies, had a constant supply of homemade Chex mix, made the best lemon meringue pie, and shared her love of food with me. Yet, she also spent a lifetime of avoiding certain foods because of something she heard on TV or read in a magazine. Food became a chore for her. Every time we got together, there was another food she couldn’t eat and at one point she was even avoiding certain water! Seeing one of her greatest joys in life disappear is what gives me the passion today to focus on facts and not fear.
And that’s where Curated Food and Nutrition comes in. This site will focus on Cure + Ate + Ed = cancer, nutrition, and education. You will find information on the latest cancer and nutrition research, practical advise for eating during treatment, suggestions for caregivers who are struggling to provide nourishment for their loved ones, and handouts for other oncology nutrition professionals.
I’d love to hear from you. Is there a topic you want more information about? Let’s connect! Subscribe to my newsletter to get the latest information sent right to your inbox or email me at laura@curatedfoodandnutrition.com
